When you’re working long hours and running the kids around to their various activities, it starts to take it’s toll. No matter how busy you are, you need to make time for a little self care.

Even if you only have half an hour once the kids have gone to bed, you can fit some self care into your day.

1. Take a luxurious bath

Taking a shower or a bath is something that most of us do every day. But make your bath feel more luxurious by using some extra special products.

You could add scented candles around your bath tub, and treat yourself to some luxury products that you wouldn’t ordinarily use.

Make it clear that you’re taking some time out and you’re not to be disturbed! Dim the lights and maybe play your favourite soothing music too.

2. Meditate

Meditation doesn’t need to take a huge chunk out of your day. Try doing a five minute meditation every day. Just that five minutes will have a big impact on your overall mood and mental wellbeing.

There are lots of videos on YouTube to get your started.

3. A little indulgence

Overall, you need to be eating a healthy diet in order to make sure that you’re taking care of your body and your mind. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy a little indulgent treat from time to time too.

Treat yourself to some luxury chocolates, or even a glass of wine to help you to unwind at the end of a busy day. Everything is fine as long as it’s in moderation.

4. Take up reading

Reading is one of my absolute favourite ways to unwind at the end of the day. In fact, I can’t fall asleep without reading for a while first.  Opt for books that allow you to get lost in the story and enjoy that quiet time.

5. Take a break from technology

I’ve found that I’m constantly checking my phone in the evenings, and it’s so bad for me! I’m now making a conscious effort to put my phone down and not touch it for at least an hour every evening. In that time, I find that I’m so much more relaxed! If you’re constantly checking social media, then it’s worth trying a bit of a detox to see what a difference it makes to your mental wellbeing.

Do you have any tips for how to take care of yourself when life seems hectic?
